One of the great things about art is it is so eclectic. The very young and the very old see the same object in different but similar ways. Those in between will also produce their own renditions.
Art places no age limits on its producers. Various artists from infants, to monkeys and elephants, have created it. If a person feels moved when they look at a paint set or a pack of colored pencils they are an artist. It does not matter if they never created a thing in their lives. All one needs is the desire.Want more? Click here/tag
How old is too old to start something new is just a state of mind. Even people with disabilities have taken up art late in life. Some very fine paintings have been done with the artist using their mouth to hold the brush.
Many people tried art when they were young and gave it up because of criticism by their peers. Others quit because of self-criticism. Art like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. An artist may not be qualified to judge his or her own work. Many who are quick to discourage the work of others may lack the ability to recognize true art.
The hours wasted in front of a television set can be made very productive if one works on their art at the same time. An elaborate studio is not needed. A few brushes and a watercolor set can be purchased for less than a trip to the movies. The cost of paper varies but one can start small and work their way up.
Other types of art like ceramics and oil painting are also inexpensive to try. One of the least expensive ways to get into art is with a good pen or pencil and a sketchbook.
A budding artist, no matter what their age, may tend to be self conscious about their work. Confidence will develop with experience. The tendency to throw away work should be avoided. Early sketches and paintings need to be kept so they can be used as a record of progress. Showing work to others may be hard to do at first but it is very pleasing when
it becomes appreciated.
There is no such thing as too old to take up art. If you appreciate beauty and life, you are already an artist.
