Most children love a great arts and crafts project, yet most children do not understand art and it’s artists. I think that the process of introducing children to artists, concepts of creativity and ideas, and encouraging them to pursue their artistic talents is important. Children flaunt their imaginations through art, and for some, arts will be their calling. Whether through music or fine arts, these help develop creativity and expression in children. With schools trying to eliminate arts programs because of funding, the opportunity to learn and thrive in arts is dwindled. Now is the time for parents to step up and establish a foundation for art in their child’s life.Confused? Here ‘s a little help . Ways that a parent can do this is making crafts with their child, enrolling them in art or music lessons, and taking them to museums. When a child is old enough and interested in learning about art and artists, a museum is the perfect resource to take advantage of. Tours are available and all of the art is labeled! This will teach children that art has been around for centuries, praised, and an amazing way of manifesting individuality. Even if your child is not interested in following an artistic path, commencing the history and importance of art will provide a general education for your child to flourish in the future.

It’s tough starting out as an artist. Supplies are expensive, time is precious and you never quite know when inspiration will strike or if you’ll be left high-and-dry for a day or two. And now, because of, perhaps, some pretentious or incorrect, preconceived notions of the tools of the trade, the market has now been divided. Those on the internet with their wireless internet service providers and whatnot have done the shopping. There are art supplies and then there are “art supplies.” What’s the difference? There isn’t much of one. The former is cheaper while the latter has a couple popular name brands and price hikes.

Art supply companies understand the allure of purchasing something that’s “officially” an art supply and they do their best to overcharge you for something you can find slightly cheaper elsewhere. One of the most expensive items that is indispensable to the struggling artist is the art supply box. It’s a fishing tackle box. Seriously, that’s all it is. It has little drawers that extend when you open it and sectioned-off shelf spaces. However, art supply companies will charge you more than you would pay for a fishing tackle box because theirs is an “art supply box.”

Honestly, being an artist is hard enough without being ripped off. Do your research and find out what you’re really paying for. Explore alternatives and save money where possible. You’ll be glad you did.

Should I take art classes or wing it? The answer is simple; if you want expert results you’ll take art classes. If you want amateur results you’ll continue to pretend to know what you’re doing and produce substandard artwork year after year. Knowing which techniques to use and what materials yield the most effective results is what every artist passes on to his or her pupils. Be a student and learn from experienced artists, so one day you can do the same.

Art is a profession just like every other money making venture. Having the skills to produce a quality piece of art makes you a professional worthy of the pay you demand for your product. In drawing class, you’ll learn which pencils or charcoal deliver the kind of impact you attempting to illustrate. You’ll learn the affects of different papers, how to correct mistakes, how to preserve you work and hoe to present it for presentation or sale. You’ll be taught essential elements of creating the art, like balance, composition and perspective. Without these essentials your artwork has the potential to lack the polish professional art possesses.

Not knowing technique is another essential skill your lack of education may foster. Each medium demands a particular set of skills. Painting can be done in water, oil or acrylic. It can be done with a brush or a knife. The surface of the painting can be board, paper or canvas. Understanding which surface to use and when, is the mark of an expert. If an artist has no other goals, at least one of them should be to know how to use the tools of their trade to create an exceptional piece of art combining composition, balance and perspective in a pleasing display of color, texture, technique and professional use of media.

If you have decided to begin painting the next step is to explore the different types of paints. The three most popular types of paint are acrylic, oil, and watercolor. Each has many styles and attributes. This article compares two types of paints, oil and watercolor.

Oil paints come in tubes and use oil as a base to distribute the pigment on a canvas. With conventional oils paint a turpentine solution is needed to clean paint brushes. These paints are very rich and can be layered and applied thick for texture. The conventional oil paints can take days to dry, so it is possible to go back into a painting and rework areas a day or two later. You can even paint over dry areas. Typically oil paints and the necessary supplies cost more than watercolor painting supplies.

Watercolor painting is a very fluid style of painting. Water is the base for the pigment, so clean up is easily done with tap water. The paint can be found in cakes and in tubes and watercolor paper is typically used instead of a canvas. Although you can buy very high end supplies, good quality watercolor supplies can be purchased relatively inexpensively.

Choosing a medium can become a daunting task. Think of what you want to accomplish in your art; do you want to paint something that is quick to dry or do you need more time to make changes and blend colors? Some paint mediums are difficult to mix on a pallet or even on canvas, such as watercolors and oils-for obvious reasons. Many different mediums blend nicely and provide a desirable effect when completed. However, if you just cannot choose the medium that will work best, consider mixed media art, where nearly any media component is used. Mixed media allows the artist to use many different types of medium as long as the base layer provides stability for weight changes, if applicable. In addition, you can challenge yourself to use elements that you already possess, working them into your art and forcing you to be inventive and even more imaginative. Creating your own medley of media in one artwork will allow you to show case each selection to its artistic apex and create a truly original piece. Whether you decide between watercolors, acrylics, oils, pastels, ink, paper machete, sculpting clay or a combination of any of these, your finished product will be exactly what you want it to be because art takes many different forms, no matter the choice of media.

There’s a common saying that goes “you have to know the rules before you can break them” and this is a motto all artist should try to follow. Having even a basic understanding of art history will help improve any painters craft. Studying art history allows you to see how other painters progressed in their craft, how they changed techniques or simply got better at what they were attempting over time. Studying art history will also give you a new context and way to think about the painting you are viewing. How they influenced and changed the world around them, which is an important thing for any artist to understand. You can find a quick rundown here Art impacts society and as such a painter should be as knowledgeable as possible about the possible impact they may have. A good painting is about more than technique, simply knowing how to paint well will not guarantee the creation of a painting that resonates with the viewer. The study of art history will also allow painters to know when they are breaking new ground. As a painter if you don’t know what others have done before you then how can you know if what your doing is truly unique?

Art is an extraordinarily subjective and personal medium. One person’s opinion about what makes a good painting, sculpture, or installation piece may differ from another person’s opinion, and both of them may not see eye to eye with the studied and experienced art critic. This is part of what makes art a great field of study; it is a constant struggle to define what in fact makes a good piece of art. The rules and guidelines have changed over time, and new art movements have abolished the standards and forms set by their predecessors. At the same time, as much as art should be about new forms and movements, there are still some basic parameters that determine a good painting.

There are four elemental components to a successful painting. First, balance is important. The canvas must have
a sense of unity; this is a concept taken from the Classical Greeks and is still applied today. Second, proportion is the key to a good painting. This is one of the first things they teach you at art school. It is also imperative to have an understanding of light and shadow. Finally, brushstrokes can determine the success or failure of a painting.
